Shooting stage with a rangefinder
Stage photography is one of my favorite subject. I've been using DSLRs for it, and now that I started using rangefinders I'm curious if I can use it effectively for this purpose. This year's Mosaic music festival is a great even to give this a shot. Manual focusing on a rangefinder is definitely a challenge for a stage shoot but its sure is a lot of fun and the result is not that far behind of a DSLR. Obviously high ISO is not a forte of digital M and the new generation of DSLR such as Nikon D700 and Canon 5D Mk II have ridiculously great high ISO performance, but my M8 could still produce good stage images. These are images from great performers, Soulmate from India, Blue on Blue from Thailand and Bonita & the hus Band from my hometown, Jakarta, Indonesia.

Bonita & the husBand at Mosaic music festival 2010
The trio of Bonita on vocal, her husband Adoy on guitar and Bharata on percussion, returned to Esplanade as a quartet with the addition of Jimmy on the saxophone. The eclectic group rock the house at 2010 Mosaic music festival with the "tribute to soul" greats such as Aretha Franklin, James Brown and Rod Stewart, along with original songs from two of their albums. I had a great time shooting this, with some blurred shots probably from moving to their wonderful sounds.
